Mark W. Gesell, MD, FACS, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in surgical and nonsurgical treatments for hip and knee conditions and injuries as well as arthroscopic surgery and joint replacement. Dr. Gesell joined Professional Orthopaedic Associates in 2011.
After completing his bachelor’s degree in human biology at Stanford University in Stanford, California, Dr. Gesell earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Loyola University Chicago in Maywood, Illinois. He then pursued a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Following his residency, he underwent additional training with a fellowship in adult reconstruction and joint reconstruction at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, New York.
Dr. Gesell’s extensive training in orthopaedic surgery has made him an expert in hip and knee procedures. His expertise includes total hip and knee replacement, partial knee replacement, revision joint replacement, robotic-assisted joint replacement, fracture care, and sports injuries as well as minimally invasive procedures for the shoulder and knee.
Dr. Gesell is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Gesell enjoys playing golf.
Dr. Gesell is available to see patients at our Tinton Falls, Toms River, and Freehold offices.

As a courtesy to our patients, our highly trained specialists will verify insurance benefits before treatment. On your first visit, if requested, our staff will review those benefits with you so that any financial obligations will be known. Currently, we participate with Medicare. We accept most other insurances on an out-of-network basis. We also accept cash, personal check, and credit card.
